Tummy Time
It’s more than putting babies on their tummy. It’s evidence-based protocols developed over years when Michelle Emanual my friend and teacher, an OT with a brilliant mind for research was working with preemies in the NICU (and eventually full term babies in private practice). She found putting infants through positional changes and OT in prone (Tummy Time for parents) while hooked up to pulse oxygen, blood pressure and heart rate monitors provided instant biofeedback and clear results for improving baby’s vitals and regulating baby’s Autonomic Nervous System which improves baby’s cranial nerve function to its optimum. If you are interested in hearing more about cranial nerve function, specifically related to feeding and suck/swallow/breathe coordination, I would love any chance to share more about TTM with you.
